Oil is now precious. It is the responsibility of all of us to make it last as long as possible, to burn the least amount that we can.
How much oil is left and how fast are we using it up?
At present we are burning or otherwise using 84 million barrels of oil daily and the rate of use is still going up. The only real question is how much is there?
Best estimate is around 1 trillion barrels of usable oil.
Divide 84 million into 1 trillion and you get 11,904 days of oil left.
That’s 32 1/2 years and it’s all gone. That’s within most of our lifetimes.
Think about all that it is doing for us and what we will lose unless we start a major manufacturing blitz to produce sustainable (post-oil) transportation and machinery:
Gone will be our ability to grow and ship food the way we do now.
Say good bye to plastics.
Every vehicle we have now will be useless- not just cars, but our firetrucks, garbage trucks, cranes, bulldozers, airplanes, etc. We need to figure out what our vehicles will run on when oil becomes scarce. No one should turn involuntarily local.
Oil won’t last and global warming is real, caused by burning oil and coal.
So why are we still making cars that get bad mileage? Read
Horsepower, weight, hybrids, and efficiency if you are going to buy a new vehicle.
