Science is the acquisiton of reliable knowledge about our world.

People sometimes blame environmental problems on science but science, being the search for solutions, is not the problem. The problems are incomplete science, coming up with something to make or do without thinking through all of its consequences. With good science we can know that damage is going to happen and avoid it in the first place. Like any other endeavor, the resources we need to live have to be part of the central consideration of what gets done.
