Responsibilities of All: Rich | Poor | Corporations | Governments
Resources: Land | Labor | Capital | Time | Knowledge
The Five Resource Groups
The Land is anything the earth gives us, the natural resources: Oil, minerals, soil, water, oceans, air, plants and animals.
We can now say we only have the natural resources that the humans that went before us were smart enough to leave us. We are using up what we need to live. We must apply knowledge to how we use the land, and change our actions that are detrimental.
We have so many demands upon land. We need it for growing food, for housing, for roads, factories and stores and cities. We need it for forests and parks and for wilderness areas- we need to keep as many of the plants and animals that we have now, as possible. Our land is physically limited- we only have one earth.
The only way to get more out of the land is to use it wisely, to apply knowledge, so we can do more with less.
Three major topics directly making earth poorer:
Overpopulation The earth's natural resources can only support so many people. We must control our numbers by conscious decisions, not letting it get to the point where people have to fight over food. Universally, we humans turn really nasty on our neighbors when we can't feed our families, whether our neighbors are other people or the ecosystems we live next to. We all must eat for quality lives. Overpopulation- outstripping our ability to eat- must not be allowed to happen.
Global Warming Global Warming is real, changing the parameters of every single ecosystem we have on this planet, causing major losses of biodiversity. It is also, through sea level rise, leading to the direct loss of the most valuable land to people everywhere, the land right next to the tidal wetlands as well as the tidal wetlands themselves, since people will do all they can to stop there dry land at the edge from becoming tidal wetland. With just a one meter rise of ocean level the estimate is that we will lose 70 to 80% of the tidal wetlands of the earth. Knowing this, we must do all we can to curb Global Warming.
Every time we destroy a piece of nature we then have to pay to replace it. So let’s use it wisely in the first place! We need to take care of our natural resources or we lose our quality of life.
